Under the tall trees of the AZ Sports Centre ’t Lood dozens of AZ talents work hard every day on their own future and, therefore, the future of the 'pack'. The AZ Youth Training Centre has been working very hard the last few years on smoothing the path to success and has built up a good reputation as an accessible and professional training institute.
Adjustments such as training twice a day, specific supervision during individual training activities, an outlined transport scheme and a study programme where every player can obtain a diploma regarding the level he or she can attain are issues that belong within a professionalised youth training centre.
The AZ Youth Training Centre has undergone a huge transformation the past few years. Currently the successful training institute on the Loodpolderweg is under the management of Aloys Wijnker who sets out the nets together with his staff and football issues managing director Marcel Brands. The staff of the training centre consist of trainers who thoroughly know the club culture because nearly all youth trainers have played for AZ in the past and are well versed in the playing style.
The first fruit of the renovated AZ Youth Training Centre has borne fruit. Players such as Haris Medunjanin, Tom Zoontjes and Arjan Wisse have already made their debut in the field. The most appealing example of how fast things can go is Ron Vlaar. The centre-back developed exceptionally fast and earned starting positions in the AZ team, as well as UEFA -21 and Feyenoord. He has, in the meantime, also made his debut as an international player of Holland.
The AZ Youth Training Centre has not been forgotten now that the new AZ stadium has arrived. A completely renovated accommodation complex will emerge on the site on the Loodpolderweg which is worthy of a club such as AZ. The new accommodation will make provisions for new changing rooms, medical facilities, a fitness equipment room and study rooms.
